Pachacutec, the motor for social change in Peru

The Pachacutec Foundation is a study centre in which "more than 1,000 students are trained annually to serve as motors of change". Among the different educational alternatives offered by the Foundation -within a programme aimed at integral human development of marginalised populations in the area of Pachacutec, Peru- we can highlight the Pachacutec Culinary School.

Promoted by the chef Gastón Acurio, it offers complete and comprehensive training through practical and theoretical courses, in line with market demands and standards.

Of the 500 applications received each year, 30 young people are chosen for the Culinary degree. They pay about $20 a month (barely 10% of what it would cost in other schools) and they study the course in two years, to receive the qualification of "Culinary Technician", endorsed by the Peruvian Ministry of Education.

The classes are taught by qualified lecturers and collaborators, who offer to work voluntarily and for free.
